Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) will set up India’s first group captive solar plant for a residential society in Mumbai. The project is likely to be commissioned by October 2023. This Tata Power solar plant is expected to come to Himayatnagar in Nanded and will generate electricity using solar power for just the housing society which is located at Mahalaxmi.
The first-of-its-kind project will help consumers in savings of 40 per cent in electricity bills (cheaper than the grid) for 65 per cent of solar power supplied to meet the needs of the housing society. The remaining (35per cent) will be normal supply for the consumer.
Additionally, the plant is expected to generate about 7.5 MU (million units) of energy and offset 6.15 metric tonnes of CO2 (Carbon dioxide) in the first year of commissioning itself.
In the ‘group-captive’ model, a solar project is developed for the collective usage of a residential/ housing society, and for that, the society will first sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the power supplier.
