Jindal India Enters Renewable Energy Sector

Jindal (India) Ltd, part of the B.C. Jindal Group, a leading manufacturer of downstream steel products in India, is entering the renewable energy sector. The company launched its innovative Jindalume line of aluminium-zinc (Al-Zn) coated coils designed specifically for solar module mounting structures.

The unique combination of aluminium and zinc offers superior corrosion resistance, structural strength, and extended longevity, making the Al-Zn-coated coils ideal for use in harsh outdoor environments. This makes them particularly well-suited for solar module structures, which require durability in challenging weather conditions.

Jindal (India) reportedly expressed the company's strong belief in the solar business’s potential. The Jindalume product has been engineered for exceptional durability and reliability, ensuring that solar infrastructure remains robust for decades. The company has already begun supplying Jindalume to the solar industry.

Jindal (India) operates two production facilities near Kolkata that serve markets across India. The company is also gearing up for significant expansion, with a strategic capacity increase of 0.6 million MT, representing a 60% boost from its current 1 million MT annual capacity. With an investment of Rs 1,500 crore, this expansion will fund cutting-edge research and development, further broadening Jindal India's product range and strengthening its presence in the renewable energy sector.

In addition, last year, the BC Jindal Group, the promoter of Jindal (India) Ltd, announced plans to invest around $2.5 billion in India’s renewable energy sector over the next five years. The group established Jindal India Renewable Energy, a dedicated entity focused on renewable power generation and solar cell and module manufacturing, to drive this effort. Jindal India Renewable Energy aims to generate 5 GW of power from solar, wind, hybrid, and FDRE modes while producing photovoltaic cells and modules to meet growing solar demand.
