Karan Desai Home, a sister concern of the Karan Desai Architecture + Design, explores materials old and new through its unique designs. They have recently unveiled an exclusive collection of furniture, Matilda, that redefines the majestic material ¬– marble.
Matilda heroes an age-old material like marble to present a refined contemporary collection comprising a chaise lounge, nightstands, and a tea/coffee bar. “Marble is one of the hardest stones available, yet it lends itself beautifully to creating fluid shapes and forms. Matilda articulates this character of marble through its organically evolving geometric forms,” says Principal Designer and Founder, Karan Desai.
The collection is hand-crafted using fine quality Indian marble – Banswara – by skilled native artisans.
Matilda Chaise Lounge: Hand-carved out of a single solid piece of marble, the chaise lounge is 5 feet long, 2 feet high and 18 inches deep. Two depressions have been created to seat two persons with a flat surface in between to place coffee mugs. The body of the chaise is embellished with wavy patterns accentuating the fluid design.
Tea/coffee bar: Perfectly curved on top and bottom with chamfered edges, the tea bar is a sculptural piece that not only adds an artistic flair to a space but is also very functional. It has storage on top and at the bottom with a counter in the middle for placing a coffee machine or a tea tray, etc. It features in-built plug points and lights. The fluted details of the shutters offer a cool contrast to the elegant veins of the stone.
Bedside tables: Similar arch shape of the tea bar continues in the design of the bedside tables as well. However, it has a flat top so that you can keep your phone or a book on it. There are also two holes created on the top to hold some objects like a water bottle or a vase. Provision has also been made to include a hidden plug point below the arch. Two drawers come in handy to store essential articles.
