Very soon, environmental experts will oversee the implementation of National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) waste treatment norms in group housing societies in Noida, and their recommendations will decide whether an occupancy certificate (OC) should be issued.
Noida Authority has already shortlisted two firms for hiring environmental experts for overseeing compliance with the NGT norms. Officials said that National Environmental Engineering Research Institute and Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited submitted their reports at a meeting on Thursday and a decision would be taken on the selection of one of the two firms for the job by next week.
The Authority is also planning to initiate action against group housing societies if water samples of their sewage treatment plants (STP) fail to meet the NGT standards, according to officials. The UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has already collected samples from 55 group housing societies for testing and the reports are being collated currently. And a meeting of the Authority’s water department and pollution department on this is slated for March 29.
The irrigation department has also been directed to complete the work of the in-situ wetland in Sector 51 by March 31, officials said. The department concerned has been directed to ensure that treated water from the Authority’s STPs is used for sprinkling parks across sectors.
