Residents in Noida take meter cost woes to UPERC
A suggestion by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) to take people’s grievances related to shifting meters did not go down well with flat owners during a meeting on Monday. The flat owners alleged a collusion between builders and the power department and complained about lack of clarity on how the connections would be converted by March next year. Colonel Prakash Chandra (retired), president of the apartment owners’ association at Aditya Urban Casa in Sector 78, told officials that builders were not cooperating in implementing the required conversion and most had not handed over the electricity maintenance to the society’s AOA. “Most housing societies are two to four years old and have not handed over the electricity maintenance to residents. Even if we want to install a single meter, we can’t because the builders are not cooperating. The handover needs extra commitment from the builder due to infrastructure changes involved. This plan cannot be successful without the builders’ involvement,” he said. AshutoshNiranjan, managing director of PVVNL, said: “The builders should be asked for a letter from the discom on the amount that they are charging. Consumers should apply to us directly.”
