A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed by Tata Steel and Monash University to establish a Centre for Innovation on environment and intelligent manufacturing. The purpose of the centre is to work together on global issues such as sustainable resource recovery, decarbonisation, and smart manufacturing technologies.
With this Memorandum of Understanding, Tata Steel has partnered with an Australian university for the first time on significant research and development, using Monash University’s global leadership in materials science and sophisticated manufacturing technologies.
Through the partnership, the Australian innovation ecosystem will be able to forge closer links with India and provide academics and students professional and educational possibilities, thereby promoting the transfer of talent and information between the two nations.
Professor Doron Ben-Meir, Senior Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and Engagement) at Monash University, stated that the collaboration would take advantage of the university’s internationally renowned proficiency in converting industry-focused research into creative, useful solutions.
The ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing with 2D Materials (AM2D) at Monash Engineering, directed by Professor Mainak Majumder, stated that the Center for Innovation is strategically aligned with their mission of acting globally while thinking locally in order to make an impact on Australian-born science and technology.
Tata Steel is looking for creative solutions to meet its sustainability targets as part of its decarbonisation journey, including partnerships, ongoing experimentation, research investments, and technical advancements. Tata Steel has inked Memorandums of Understanding to establish Centers of Innovation in the UK with an emphasis on advanced materials, sustainable design and production, and Imperial College London.
