Wipro Enterprises is developing products around two major technologies in its lighting segment, dark sky lighting and light fidelity (LiFi) technology. The company operates its lighting and seating business through commercial and institutional business, which is a part of its consumer care and lighting vertical. The company is one of the early players to adopt dark sky technology and has received international certification.
The company will soon launch the product and is approaching enterprises to convince them to switch to this technology when they are designing their urban landscapes. Although it is not entirely foolproof in case there are multiple players in a locality, this will likely benefit the residents in a particular area, said Anuj Dhir, senior VP at Wipro Enterprises.
The company is also developing LiFi technology which allows data transmission using lights. The technology is at a very nascent stage and very expensive. Globally, it is being used in defence and critical healthcare. Wipro Enterprises has already deployed certain technologies such as power over ethernet, Bluetooth low energy, human centric lighting and i-sense.
