Ecoworld in Bengaluru, a marque asset in the portfolio managed by Brookfield Properties, has received India’s first Net Zero Waste Platinum campus certification by IGBC (Indian Green Building Council).

In a duration of 12 months (CY-2021), the Ecoworld campus generated a total waste of 2,39,424 kgs, of which it has successfully recycled over 96.95%. It is the first commercial office development in India to attain this milestone. This accomplishment demonstrates Brookfield Properties' commitment to sustainability, which is deeply embedded in its strategic framework.

Strategically placed in Bengaluru's IT hub, the campus is helping businesses reduce waste, conserve resources, maintain water/air quality, reduce expenses and mitigate climate change. This was achieved by using a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle strategy and diverting solid and wet waste from landfills via methods such as composting. The facility also uses IoT-based technologies to continuously monitor its trash generation in real-time. Furthermore, Ecoworld practices zero waste purchasing and organizes monthly waste management training and seminars to raise awareness among staff and tenants.

Expressing his views on the achievement, Alok Aggarwal, Managing Director, and CEO – Brookfield Properties India said, “We are pleased with this recognition by IGBC and remain committed to investing in our assets to achieve Net Zero Waste status by 2027 across our entire portfolio. Excellence in our Environmental, Social and Governance goals, backed by a robust governance framework, is at the core of how we conduct our business globally. With this vision, Ecoworld in Bengaluru promotes sustainable and eco-friendly practices, keeping our occupants’ safety at the forefront of our operations.”

Strong ESG principles define Brookfield Properties' business strategy and waste management decision-making. Brookfield Properties is constantly tracking dry waste, wet waste and other forms of waste with state-of-the-art technologies while maintaining a monthly dashboard of waste management. A dedicated team has been on-boarded to oversee segregation, green procurement, waste treatment (on-site), and recycling (external).
