Indian Hotels Company Ltd Signs Two Greenfield Properties in Dhaka

Taj parent Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has expanded its international footprint by signing two greenfield properties in Bangaladesh capital Dhaka. With this South Asia’s largest hospitality company has 21 hotels including four in the pipeline in 11 countries. Taj’s current international portfolio includes four in Dubai (including one in pipeline); two in the US (New York and San Francisco), London, Sri Lanka (Colombo and Bentota), Maldives and Nepal (Chitwan and Kathmandu); two in the pipeline in Saudi Arabia (Macca and Diriyah) and Bangladesh and one each in Lusaka (Zambia) Cape Town and Thimpu.

The upcoming greenfield Taj and Vivanta in Dhaka will be a part of an integrated complex that will also include hi-end retail. IHCL MD-CEO Puneet Chhatwal said, “We are delighted t debut in Dhaka adding an important international destination to our portfolio. Bangladesh one of the fastest growing economies in the world also the second largest economy in South Asia. Its close proximity and cultural affinity to West Bengal with significant IHCL presence makes it a strategic association partnering with Borak Real Estate of the Unique Group one of the largest business conglomerates in Bangladesh.”

The first mixed use development project in Dhaka with the two hotels is located at Gulshan a key business hub in the city at a short driving distance from the Shahjalal International Airport. The Taj will have 230 rooms and Vivanta will have 130 rooms. The Chambers, Taj Business Club will launch its first outpost in Dhaka.
