Dubai is known for luxury resorts and mega buildings, so this new concept which has the capacity to handle 10 million annual visitors. A moon-shaped mega-resort is making headlines following a bit of speculation that it is coming to Dubai. Moon World Resorts is a proposed luxury lunar complex, which is around 200 metres tall, with a 600-metre circumference! There are currently no concrete plans for the resort to open in Dubai, according to Michael Henderson, one of two Canadian entrepreneurs behind the project. Actually, the company is looking to license four Moon destination resorts in North America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. “Within the Mena region we could see Moon being developed in either the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain or Kuwait,” Henderson said. If it does land in the region, it will very likely be the most visited attraction as it will have the capacity to handle millions of annual visitors. The precise location for the Moon resorts will be determined by the corporations which take on each regional license. According to Henderson, it can act as a stand-alone destination resort, or as a central focal point surrounded by a mixed-use community “similar to the relationship between the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai”. Once the license and location are taken care of, it will take another five years before the resorts will be ready to welcome guests. With the use of the tagline “because you’ve been everywhere else,” Moon resorts will be offering guests an authentic lunar surface to explore, without having to travel outside the stratosphere. A hyper-speed shuttle will take guests around the destination and a working “lunar colony” will allow visitors to feel as if they are standing on the moon’s surface, according to the project brochure. Restaurants, nightclubs, bars, a spa, a convention centre, a 10,000-seat arena inside as well as five-star hotel suites are on the plans. Private residences are also on the cards, with 300 luxury apartments planned to be located inside the disc of the main building, and all residence owners will be enrolled in an exclusive Moon private members club.
