Integrating Neuroarchitecture in Hospitality

Hotels and establishments that offer lodging and complimentary services are ubiquitous and typify the hospitality industry. Hotels are perceived to be the most lucrative industry with positive global growth. As the industry keeps evolving, modern hotels do not still remain a place to stay and sleep. They offer an escape for their guests with their design, views, and opportunities for calmness and serenity. Now, hotel design centralizes the ‘Hotel experience’ of users by elevating the human senses. 

There is an emerging trend of neuroarchitecture in the field of architecture.  Neuroarchitecture substantially proves that the experience of spaces affects human senses and behavior in a much deeper way. While hotels are becoming all about the experiences they create, the integration of neuroarchitecture in hospitality becomes inevitable. 

Devi Ratn hotel, by Designers Group, is a successful hotel design that made use of the geographical environment, regional culture themes, and material explorations to create an exceptional sensory experience. Boasting a backdrop of the Aravalli hill range, the hotel lends a perfect view of the hills, heightening the user experience. The operational auto-rickshaw and a royal chariot at the entrance create ways for the guests to feel connected to the social and cultural fabric of Jaipur. 

The hotel’s interior design is the first thing that attracts the guests. The interior is characterized by Rajasthani culture with the composition of vibrant decor items, colorful hues, and geometric elements that stimulate the visual sensory experience of the guests. The soft furnishings that are enthused with peacocks and butterflies not only enhance the visual stimulation but also inculcate a sense of touch in the users. 

A variety of seating spaces in ‘Vyom’ (the all-day dining space) creates an experiential experience with a clear view of Aravalli hills which confers onto an amorous & snug setup to savor. The hard flooring in the bar area has been replaced by customized carpet to enhance the acoustic regime of the place. 

The acoustic experience gives a complete aura to the bar. Moreover, the landscaping stimulated by Mughal architecture adds to the regal essence of the space. Another picturesque experience is the feature wall in front of the throne with the instagrammable look and feel. Thus, each spatial element is infused with the culture of Jaipur.  It encouraged people to unwind and connect with the world around them. 

Vivanta Hotels and Resorts of Taj, designed by Designers Group, is situated in Lucknow, with a unique blend of Indo-Gothic style assimilating Islamic arches.  Chikankiri, a traditional embroidery style and prestigious trinket of Lucknow was the core concept of this project with this embroidery introduced as headboard wallpapers in rooms. 

The embroidery stimulates a sense of familiarity with the context and connects us to the city fabric, as Devi Ratn does.  The partitions with filigree work between the lobby and the coffee shop impart visual connectivity while introducing the required sense of privacy.  The spaces allow natural light and clean air that enhance the olfactory experience of the hotel. An array of suspended pendant lights accentuates the ceiling design while highlighting the island bar. 

The architectural design of these hotels plays a critical role in the hospitality experiences of consumers. The projects achieve their goal of engaging the users in meaningful ways by designing spaces that activate and enhance the sensory experience of the users. The design elements in the interiors create a positive impact on the guests. They remain perfect examples of integrating neuroarchitecture in hospitality.
