World Environment Day 2021 Sets off Green Initiatives

World Environment Day is observed today reminds us about the importance of nature. The theme of this year's World Environment Day is 'Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.' as this year marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on “Ecosystem Restoration”. Many organisations are taking up initiative to save environment and encouraging other sectors to promote and execute eco-friendly initiatives in their organisation. Green Spaces is all set to kickstart a unique seedball plantation drive that aims to plant 5000 trees in 2021 starting this monsoon season. With the aim of creating some green havens amidst the gloomy pandemic times, Green Spaces has kickstarted a social media campaign that urges all to store seeds in a unique seedball method and comes together and kickstarts the plantation drive in the monsoons of 2021.  ACC and Ambuja’s Sustainable Development Plan 2030 has a sharp focus on climate and energy, building a circular economy, conserving resources and nature, and driving meaningful change in the lives of communities. Both the companies aim to reduce their CO2 footprint, reuse Waste and be many times water positive. They have also pioneered the use of bio-fuel in our captive cement transporting ships, which successfully completed the trial runs earlier this year. Their Geocycle brand provides safe waste management solutions by co-processing alternative fuels and raw materials in the cement manufacturing process, thereby conserving traditional fuels and raw materials. Blue Dart, an integrated transportation & distribution company, announced paperless transactions on their new Digital Portal for all its Vendor Partners this World Environment Day.  Through this initiative, Blue Dart will not only protect the environment but also commits to planting a significant number of trees every year. Currently, Blue Dart plants 111,000 trees every year, in order to offset 22,20,000 kg carbon per year on maturity. The company aims to make all their owned or leased facilities operate at Net Zero Carbon by 2025, drive increased efficiency and use cleaner fuels within their fleet of 6 Boeing 757 freighters, support customers with sustainable and optimized packaging solutions and design greener products and services through their comprehensive solutions. JLL India too announced their aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040 across all areas of their operations, including the client sites they manage, globally.  Embassy REIT has also got on board FICCI for a “water conservation study at two properties in Mumbai. As part of its commitment to adopt renewable energy Embassy REIT is installing rooftop solar plants in its eight campuses spread across 3 in Bangalore, 3 in Pune and 2 in Noida. It has also helped 10 government schools in Bengaluru by equipping them with solar powered electrification. Embassy REIT will also be conducting tree plantation drive along with participation from key occupiers by planting 112 trees in Pune which will give 13 tons of oxygen per year, and 1300 trees in Noida which will give 70 tons of oxygen per year.  Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 70 per cent by 2025 (over 2016 base year) and achieve net zero emissions by 2030. The company set forth the new carbon reduction goal after having achieved the previous target of reducing specific carbon footprint by half by 2020 (versus baseline year FY 2008), ahead of schedule.
