The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has initiated the acquisition of ~3,500 acres in Wadsa taluka, Gadchiroli, for JSW Group’s proposed Rs1 lakh crore integrated steel plant. Announced by Chairman Sajjan Jindal in February, the facility will have a 25 MTPA capacity, doubling JSW’s current output and surpassing SAIL’s 18 MTPA production.
This marks the largest land acquisition in the district, with most of the land privately owned and some forested patches. Clearances and PESA-based gram sabha resolutions are pending, as several affected villages fall under Scheduled Areas.
The plant is expected to transform Gadchiroli into a steel manufacturing hub, with additional investments from Lloyds Metals & Energy and Surjagad Ispat reinforcing the region’s industrial potential. Once operational, the facility will anchor large-scale employment, logistics upgrades, and auxiliary industries in one of Maharashtra’s most underdeveloped districts.
