In the blazing heat of Saudi Arabia’s desert, the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) Tower, previously known as the Kingdom Tower, is rapidly rising to redefine the skyline of Jeddah and potentially the world. Standing at over 0.62 miles tall, this architectural marvel is set to become the tallest skyscraper on Earth. Spearheaded by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, the JEC Tower is not just a building but a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, reflecting the nation’s ambition to shape a future driven by innovation and sustainability.
Designed by renowned architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the JEC Tower will surpass the Burj Khalifa in height, the current tallest building at 2,716 feet. Known for designing iconic structures, Smith and Gill are pushing the boundaries of architecture with this project, integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices. The tower’s sleek, aerodynamic form is designed to endure harsh desert winds while using advanced materials to maintain its structural integrity.
Despite past setbacks due to financial and logistical challenges, construction is now progressing at an astonishing pace. Currently, the 64th floor is under construction, with a floor completed every four days. The project team is innovating techniques to pump concrete up to 2,624 feet, with plans to reach the tower’s full height of over 3,280 feet.
The JEC Tower will feature 157 floors and house luxury hotels, residences, office spaces, and the world’s highest observation point. It is a centrepiece of a larger urban development that will transform Jeddah into a global hub, housing 100,000 people and offering world-class amenities such as hospitals and universities.
Set for completion in 2028, the tower embodies Saudi Arabia’s dedication to shaping a prosperous, sustainable future. As the world eagerly watches its construction, the JEC Tower promises to inspire future generations to reach for the sky.
