In a major leap for the engineered stone industry, Quantra Surfaces by Pokarna Limited unveiled two revolutionary quartz surface collections - Aksara and Avyaan at the recently concluded Design Democracy 2025. These world-first innovations combine cutting-edge Italian technology with precision Japanese engineering, promising to redefine premium surface design in both domestic and international markets.
The launch marked a significant moment for the Indian design ecosystem, as Quantra becomes the only company globally to introduce such technologically advanced surfaces. Rahul Jain, Managing Director of Pokarna Limited, emphasized the breakthrough, stating, “This technology, patented and modified to suit consumer preferences, is unique in the world. Pokarna is the only company introducing such advanced surfaces to both domestic and international markets.”
Aksara: Timeless Beauty with Ultra-HD Realism
The Aksara collection aptly named after the Sanskrit word meaning "The Imperishable" features Chromia® technology from Italian tech pioneer Breton S.p.A. and incorporates ultra-HD printing using a Japanese inkjet system capable of delivering 600 DPI natural graphics. Each surface replicates intricate natural stone aesthetics with photographic clarity, raising the bar for realism in engineered stone. The collection also integrates UV-Armour protection, enhancing durability and resistance to fading, ensuring these surfaces maintain their luster for years.
Avyaan: Precision Meets Performance
Avyaan, derived from the Sanskrit term meaning "The Flawless", is powered by Kreos® technology, also from Breton S.p.A. It is the world’s first extrusion-based quartz surface, allowing for slabs with unparalleled natural aestheticsand detail that rivals even real stone. This technology allows Quantra to create full-body surfaces with remarkable structural integrity and design depth, far surpassing the visual limitations of surface-only treatments.
Quantra Surfaces has taken innovation further by integrating both Chromia and Kreos technologies with six robotic systems in its production line. This enables the manufacture of natural-looking full body quartz slabs in thicknesses of 7mm, 12mm, 20mm, and 30mm, a global industry-first. These surfaces offer a stronger, more durable alternative to traditional printed ceramic tiles or glossy Brazilian stone tiles, making them ideal for high-traffic residential and commercial applications.
Local Expansion with Global Standards
While these products were initially targeted at export markets, Pokarna is now focused on expanding domestically. “Printed Quartz Products represent a huge opportunity in India, especially in Telangana,” said Jain. Demand is already strong in key metros including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
In a move to bring these world-class surfaces closer to Indian consumers and professionals, Quantra will open its first Experience Centre in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, early next year. The space will serve as a hub for architects, interior designers, and builders to engage with the new collections first-hand.
Drawing deeply from Indian cultural heritage while embracing global technology, Aksara and Avyaan mark a defining moment for India’s role in the global design innovation landscape.
