World’s Smallest Holiday Home Opens for Bookings in Germany

The world's smallest holiday home is now available for bookings after four years of extensive renovations. Measuring just 11 square feet across two floors, this minuscule abode is setting its sights on a Guinness World Record, with its owners, Marita Hannemann-Moos and Andrea Moos, believing it to be the smallest holiday home globally.

Located in the quiet village of Rieps in Germany, the couple discovered the disused brick building for sale for a mere £1. Already managing two other holiday apartments, they couldn't resist the challenge of transforming the space into a unique getaway. After years of hard work, the result is a surprisingly functional holiday home. The ground floor features a compact bathroom with a shower and underfloor heating, while an external staircase leads to the fully-equipped kitchen, complete with a microwave, mini fridge-freezer, stove, and sink. A small table and two chairs fit neatly beside one of the windows, and a sofa extends into a bed.

The highlight of the tiny home is its glass roof, offering guests the chance to sleep under the stars. Despite the home’s tiny size, it provides everything needed for a comfortable stay.

The transformation wasn’t cheap, with the couple spending £161,000 on the project, including £44,000 in subsidies and £117,000 in renovation costs. However, they are now ready to welcome guests, with prices starting at just £92 per night.

This tiny home is part of a growing trend for small, efficient living spaces. In another example, a woman has turned a £7,000 van into her dream tiny home, proving that downsizing can offer both adventure and comfort.
