Adopt Economic, Environmental & Social Sustainability

Why do you think India needs more climate change ready buildings?

Not just India, but many other countries should already be planning infrastructure to combat the climate change effects. India’s existing urbanization models are not enough to tackle the dangerous and catastrophic effects of global warming and we keep moving forward at this rate, we will see a lot of naturally occurring disasters that might wipe out a huge part of our population. India’s infrastructure needs to be strong enough to sustain the rising sea levels, increasing temperature, endangered land species, and so much more. Hence, we must decarbonize as much as possible and the construction industry can play a major role in it.

How can we take the concept of Net Zero Energy Buildings to the next level?

Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) run on extremely low energy. In contrast with the current high-rise buildings that put strenuous pressure on our energy resources, these buildings are highly efficient and can produce as much energy as they consume. Net Zero Energy Buildings can achieve net-zero energy goals because of how they are built. We use energy-efficient technologies and renewable sources of energy to construct these buildings to produce enough efficiency that can reduce the need for energy from depleting resources.

How has the pandemic influenced changes to traditional HVAC systems?

The pandemic did more than good for the HVAC systems. When the outbreak first started, it was only assumed that it would spread viciously in closed and confined spaces, but the assumptions turned true very soon. As a result, automatically controlled HVAC systems helped dilute the contaminants in the air by giving ventilation to closed spaces and increasing the time needed for the virus to travel from host to host. Rise in demand and importance also led to control-setting changes and upgrades to our HVAC systems. There was demand for variable speed fan motors to improve the control of airflow; high-performance air purification systems; ability to remove inactive biological particles in a room; and so much more.

Ways in which cleantech is making commercial real estate more energy efficient

5 things that energy efficient buildings have in common:

  1. Solar integrated roof panels and accommodated rainwater harvesting option.
  2. Smart sensors to detect space occupancy and activate lighting and the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems accordingly.
  3. Smart glasses and windowpanes to control sunlight, heat, and glare from entering.
  4. Fully automated HVAC systems.
  5. Sensor-based motors to control large and small home appliances.
