Just last week, I watched a family’s faces light up during a digital flat walkthrough—proof that technology can turn a house into a dream home. But while real estate is booming, young, tech-driven minds are still rare here.
As a recent M.Sc Data Science & Management graduate from IIT Ropar and IIM Amritsar, now with Rustomjee, I often see family’s step into our sample flats, immediately drawn to the elegant false ceilings and modern layouts. Their faces light up during digital walkthroughs as they imagine these features in their own homes, and many ask, “Can we have something like this in our flat?” These moments show how much customers appreciate thoughtful design and how technology can help personalize their experience.
Housing is a basic human need, yet the sector often struggles to keep up with new tools and innovative ideas that could truly transform it. This gap is what motivates me to be part of the change.
The Indian real estate market is expected to grow from $200 billion in 2021 to $1 trillion by 2030, showing immense potential. However, technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), which are widely used in the IT sector, have not yet been fully adopted in real estate. There is a wealth of customer data available, but it is rarely used to its full potential. AI could help identify the right customer segments and enable precise marketing, making the entire process more efficient and customer-focused. This is where young leaders can make a real difference.
Currently, about 40% of the IT workforce consists of young people, while only 10% of the real estate sector is represented by this demographic. This gap stands out to me. Young professionals have the ability to think differently, challenge the status quo, and apply digital solutions to long-standing problems. With fresh perspectives and tech-savvy approaches, we can help the real estate industry move forward.
Building and selling homes is not just about construction; it is about understanding and meeting people’s needs with accuracy. Techno-managers, who combine technological expertise with management skills, are essential for the future of real estate.
There is much more to be done, and with the involvement of young, tech-driven leaders, the industry can be redefined for a smarter and more connected era. If we take action now, we will not only just build homes, we will create spaces that enrich lives.
