300 property tax defaulters put on notice in Narnaul
The Municipal Council, Narnaul, which has been passing through its worst financial crisis, has put over 300 property tax defaulters on notice. It has asked them to clear their dues within seven days. The property of the ones who fail to make the payment within the deadline would be attached, states the notice. Sources say the council is to recover a total of Rs 10 crore as property tax from around 500 defaulters in Narnaul city which is the district headquarters of Mahendra garh district. Another list is also being prepared to serve notices on the remaining 200 defaulters for recovering the tax. Interestingly, several government officers are also on the defaulters’ list. “A major chunk of Rs 3 crore out of the outstanding amount is to be paid by government offices. Besides those, a total of Rs 20 lakh from hotels, Rs 12 lakh from hospital and Rs 10 lakh from marriage palaces/banquet halls are to be recovered,” said sources, adding that some prominent persons of the city too were tax defaulters. Sources said that the council is authorised either to attach the property of the defaulters or to file a case against them in court to recover the tax from them under Section 94 of the Haryana Municipal Committee Act and Section 95 of the Land Revenue Act. Bharti Saini, Chairperson of the council, said this was the final notice. After this, a campaign would be run to attach the properties of who fail to clear the dues.
