Forty one floors above Mumbai’s restless skyline sits A Still Summit, an 8,000 sq. ft duplex designed by Studio Tattva and led by principal designer Aditi Savani. The home belongs to an entrepreneurial couple and their two children, and it captures something uniquely Mumbai. It is layered, ambitious and quietly opulent, yet deeply personal.
From the outset, the design sets out to balance grandeur with calm. Neoclassical clarity meets subtle Art Deco touches, while technology and wellness are seamlessly integrated into everyday life.
An Auspicious Beginning
The main entry was carefully repositioned to face true north in keeping with the principles of Vastu Shastra. It is a small yet meaningful gesture that signals how thoughtfully the home has been planned.
A mandala-inspired, floor-to-ceiling stone mural greets visitors. The eight-foot-wide foyer is clad in full-height wall panels, establishing a sense of scale. An abstract painting of goldfish, symbolising prosperity, becomes the focal point. Overhead, a custom glass chandelier with gilded fin-like edges casts a warm glow, echoing the goldfish theme without feeling literal.
A corridor leads forward, flanked by a functional kitchen on one side and a personalised home office on the other. At the end of the passage sits a contemporary guest bedroom, its filleted and curved edges lending a subtle Art Deco character.
A Luminous Living Core
The formal living and dining area unfolds in a restrained palette of whites, taupes, gold accents and sharp black detailing. The black exoskeleton frames of the sofas, centre tables and dining chairs reference Mumbai’s Art Deco heritage without overpowering the space.
Brass detailing appears quietly throughout. It traces door trims, outlines the elevator frame, edges furniture and finishes chandeliers. The dining area’s rose gold mirror-panelled wall conceals the powder room behind arch-like patterns, blending design and discretion.
At the heart of the home stands a striking spiral staircase wrapped around a semi-capsule lift. Crafted in metal with glass and marble finishes, it rises in a fluid curve. Ombré glass railings, marble treads and a brushed brass handrail create a seamless visual flow. A double-height wall beside it is clad in a fluid panel inspired by the Arabian Sea, grounding the vertical ascent in Mumbai’s coastal context.
Upstairs, the informal living room offers a softer mood. Warm beiges and taupes, curved ceilings and layered lighting create a cocooned atmosphere against the city skyline. A perspective artwork strategically placed in the room adds depth and dimension.
Private Sanctuaries
Each bedroom in A Still Summit is designed as a private retreat. Walk-in wardrobes, expansive city views and automated sensor-based temperature and curtain systems ensure comfort and control.
The son’s bedroom reflects his personality with a custom display wall for his toy gun collection and a climbing wall for play. The daughter’s room, in soft lilac tones, marks her transition into young adulthood. A dedicated dresser and study area give the space both grace and function.
The master suite crowns the duplex. Shades of brown, beige and champagne gold define its understated luxury. Dual walk-in wardrobes for him and her are finished in real leather and fitted with a self-watch winder, dehumidifier and ozonizer. The adjoining bathroom, clad in Greek White Thassos marble, transforms into a spa-like escape. A bathtub overlooks the seascape, offering what the designer describes as a falcon’s nest in the clouds.
This bathroom was recently honoured at the GROHE Bath & Design Award 2025, held in collaboration with Architectural Digest India.
Wellness at the Core
Beyond its bedrooms and formal areas, the home extends into spaces dedicated to wellbeing and leisure. A yoga room, full-size sauna and massage room cater to the adults. A ballet room is reserved for the daughter. A 30-seater home theatre, equipped with a Bowers and Wilkins sound system, creates a cinematic experience within the residence.
Technology supports the design rather than dominating it. A fully controlled centralised HVAC system and a separate air filtration system ensure comfort. In the master bathroom, smart WCs and water-efficient fittings reduce consumption. Natural light and passive ventilation are maximised, while a water recovery system for the jacuzzi underscores the project’s eco-conscious intent.
A Reflection of the City
A Still Summit does more than deliver luxury. It mirrors Mumbai itself. Art Deco details recall the city’s architectural legacy. The staircase curves like the Arabian Sea. The materials shimmer without excess. Every element is deliberate.
Suspended above the skyline, the duplex offers stillness in a city that rarely pauses. It is rooted in context yet constantly reaching upward, much like Mumbai. In its balance of ambition and restraint, indulgence and practicality, A Still Summit captures what modern urban living can look like when design is thoughtful, layered and deeply human.
