The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has shifted its focus on providing housing to economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower-income groups (LIG) at an affordable price by introducing a mandatory provision in the projects developed by private realtors on government land.
BDA chairman G Mathivathanan said private parties will have to keep aside 10% of the units of the housing projects built on government land for EWS and LIG. Such dwelling units will be made available to the lower-income group of people at Rs 1,780 per square feet.
Till now, the BDA has allotted four such land parcels to developers for the purpose and this will be further expanded in the near future, Mathivathanan said. He added that the BDA is in the process of allotting 128 2BHK flats in K-9B Kalinga Nagar in Daya Enclave. This is for the middle-income group of people and so far, 109 allottees have been selected through lottery and the flats will be handed over to them very soon, he said.
As per the Authority, the aim is to foster a sustainable and balanced growth for the extended parts of the state capital. BDA has planned to develop a New City on 95% government-owned land in Daspur and Gothapatana. The proposed city will create multi-brand economic development in vibrant urban form. It will boost multi-pronged economic development.
