The Chandigarh administration has finalised the draft policy allowing acquisition of land for development works through negotiations. The draft has been sent to the UT administrator for approval.
According to sources, after getting the approval, objections will be invited from the general public before notifying the policy. The Union ministry of home affairs will also be intimated before notifying the policy.
The administration has constituted two committees, one headed by UT adviser and other under land acquisition officer (LAO). The rates of compensation to be awarded will be based on the market value of the land and the committees will make attempt to negotiate with the land owners before the final rates are fixed. No objection certificate will be issued by the board if the acquisition is found to be for the development works. The process of acquisition has to be completed within period of 6 months.
