Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2, the oldest terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport, will reopen on October 26, 2025, after a five-month upgrade. The relaunch coincides with the start of the winter flight schedule and will handle approximately 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo.
Built four decades ago by the Airports Authority of India, Terminal 2 was temporarily closed in April for modernization after Terminal 1 resumed full operations. The revamped terminal now features a suite of passenger-friendly upgrades aimed at streamlining travel and enhancing comfort.
Key additions include the Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility, allowing passengers to scan boarding passes, tag luggage, and drop bags independently—cutting down wait times and eliminating long queues. The terminal also introduces six new passenger boarding bridges equipped with autonomous docking technology, a first in India. These bridges offer elevated ramps for wheelchair access, swing doors for operator safety, and side-cushioning for improved aesthetics and security.
Architectural enhancements include modern ceilings, skylight designs, and advanced flooring for durability and comfort. Road connectivity to the terminal has also been upgraded to ensure smoother access.
Mechanical and electrical systems have undergone significant improvements, including new HVAC installations for better air quality and climate control. Fire safety infrastructure has been reinforced, and additional electrical capacity has been added to support uninterrupted operations.
“This will optimise operations and provide a superior travel experience to hundreds of thousands of passengers every day,” said Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), operated by the GMR Group.
