India’s workspace story is entering a powerful new phase. The country’s office furniture market, currently valued at USD 4.8 billion, is expected to cross USD 7 billion by 2030, according to industry experts at the inaugural edition of ORGATEC India 2025, a major international fair for workspace design and technology.
The expansion comes at a time when India’s office market is growing at record pace. Grade-A office leasing crossed 70 million sq. ft in 2024, while demand for managed and flexible workspaces surged 57% year-on-year. As India moves toward a USD 5 trillion economy, its commercial stock is projected to nearly double by 2030, driven by global demand, technology-led innovation, and a shift toward healthier, more human-centric workplaces.
“India’s workspace and commercial real estate market is set for rapid expansion as the economy pushes toward a five trillion milestone,” said Dr. Mala Singh, Chairperson, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) – Mumbai Chapter. “By 2030, the commercial stock is expected to nearly double, driven by strong demand and India’s status as a global opportunity hub. The future of work will be defined by climate-resilient, green buildings that prioritize productivity, health, and happiness, while delivering on India’s net-zero 2070 commitments.”
Dr. Singh highlighted that sustainability is no longer optional. “ESG is central to this transformation; SEBI’s BRSR mandate has already accelerated transparent sustainability reporting among leading corporates. Design and operations must work together to decarbonize workplaces, improve indoor environmental quality and build resilience at scale,” she said.
ORGATEC India 2025, organized by Koelnmesse, brought together 103 exhibitors from over 10 countries, uniting global brands, architects, designers, and corporate leaders to reimagine how workplaces are built and experienced. The event served as a bridge between design, technology, real estate, and wellness, key pillars of the modern workspace.
For India’s technology sector, which continues to drive office space demand, sustainability and human experience have become central. Nirupam Chaudhuri, Director at NASSCOM, said, “Post-pandemic, offices are being reimagined for openness, collaboration, and comfort, with intelligent systems optimizing light, air, and energy. Sustainability is a core design input, not an afterthought. For the tech sector, where teams work long hours, ergonomic and human-centric environments matter enormously. We see strong adoption of AI, IoT and sensors across facilities, and NASSCOM is committed to partnering with allied industries to accelerate this journey.”
Echoing that sentiment, Ajay Bhatt, Group Head – Corporate Services at Godrej Industries Group, said the pandemic reset how companies think about offices. “After a brief pandemic pause, India’s office market has rebounded and is outpacing pre-COVID momentum. The future hinges on people, technology, and sustainability. Employee services must blend to help teams do their best work. We target an indoor AQI below 10 because air quality measurably improves focus and happiness. Sustainability is a boardroom issue and it does come at a cost, but we are committed to 100% renewable energy, net-zero wastes to landfill, and IGBC certifications across offices. Hybrid will stay, but with a stronger in-person rhythm to restore collaboration and velocity.”
For Milind Dixit, Managing Director, Koelnmesse Pvt Ltd, ORGATEC’s arrival in India is both timely and strategic. “ORGATEC to India was a strategic decision driven by the country’s rapid shift from cost-based office development to value-led workplace investment. Companies are now prioritising ergonomics, acoustics, wellness and technology-enabled planning and this is reflected in the numbers. The corporate wellness market is already over USD 2.5 billion and the office furniture segment is set to rise from USD 4.8 billion in 2025 to more than USD 7 billion by 2030,” he said.
From an international perspective, Koji Higashiguchi, India Investment Manager at Kokuyo Co. Ltd., said, “India stands at the forefront of a workplace revolution where offices evolve into purposeful ecosystems that nurture wellbeing, creativity, and shared values. The future is not defined by furniture alone, but by environments that inspire people to grow, connect, and contribute to society.”
Supported by leading industry bodies such as IGBC, NASSCOM, CRISP, MAIT, and the Africa Facilities Management Association (AFMA), ORGATEC India 2025 marks a pivotal moment for India’s commercial interiors industry. As design, technology, and sustainability converge, India’s workplaces are poised to become smarter, healthier, and more resilient, reflecting a future where every workspace is designed for both performance and purpose.
