As Bengaluru’s metro network expands to meet the needs of its booming urban population, Jindal Stainless is quietly playing a pivotal role behind the scenes. The country’s largest stainless-steel manufacturer has supplied premium-grade 301N austenitic stainless steel for the city’s ambitious Metro Phase 2 project, helping make the system safer, stronger, and more sustainable.
The newly inaugurated Yellow Line, flagged off by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is part of this expansion. It represents not just a milestone for Bengaluru, but also for Jindal Stainless, which has so far delivered over 1,031 metric tonnes of stainless steel for the metro coaches, with more to follow.
The material is no ordinary steel - it boasts a high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and superior fire and crash protection. Even more importantly, it aligns with India’s green mobility goals, thanks to its low carbon footprint and durability. In practical terms, this means commuters will be riding in trains designed to last longer, require less maintenance, and remain resilient in challenging conditions.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said:
“We are proud to support the modernisation of India’s metro infrastructure, which is central to strengthening urban mobility and aligns with the nation’s vision of building resilient and sustainable transport systems. By supplying to the Bengaluru Metro, we reaffirm our commitment to building safer, long-lasting, and sustainable metro networks.”
This isn’t Jindal Stainless’ first time on the tracks of India’s metro revolution. The company has supplied stainless steel for nearly every metro project in the country, from Kolkata’s first underwater metro to Mumbai’s network and Delhi’s early phases. Its expertise also extends beyond India, with contributions to international metro systems in Sydney, Melbourne, and Queensland through Alstom India.
Beyond metros, Jindal Stainless is already embedded in the future of Indian railways. From the Vande Bharat sleeper trains to the first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the company’s stainless steel has become synonymous with the nation’s push for modern, safe, and sustainable transport.
As Bengaluru’s commuters board the gleaming new coaches, few may realise the role of stainless steel in making their rides smoother and safer. But for Jindal Stainless, every metre of steel supplied is part of a larger story - a story of engineering resilience, urban transformation, and a vision for sustainable mobility in India.
