In a bid to urbanise the areas along the prominent expressways in the city, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and Uttar Pradesh Housing Development Council have announced a scheme to develop residential facilities. Under the ambitious project, new residential colonies will be developed around the Agra Expressway, the Purvanchal Expressway, and the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.
An area of about 500 acres along each expressway will be developed as part of the scheme to provide affordable and modern facility housing to millions
The area along the Agra Expressway is already witnessing urbanisation. The LDA has planned to develop a township spanning 5,610 acres on the land procured from 12 villages in the Kakori block. The project will be developed in two phases, with 1,893.93 acres under phase I and 3,716.14 acres in phase II. The expressway connects key cities of the state like Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, and Kanpur.
Purvanchal E-way is a crucial link between eastern UP and the rest of the state. It connects Varanasi, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur. It is now going to be the center of new housing schemes. The LDA is making efforts to develop the Housing Board on 500 acres on New Jail Road along the expressway. The project will include residential plots, community facilities like schools, hospitals, and shopping centers.
According to Neeraj Shukla, the Additional Housing Commissioner of Housing Development Council, the scheme has been named Saumitra Vihar. The colony will be an ideal residential site not only for the residents of Lucknow but also for the people coming from Parvanchal region. We have completed the survey work for this scheme, and the design and tender process will start soon.
Connecting two major cities, the expressway, also known as National Expressway-6, is expected to be completed by 2025. The LDA and Housing Board are also preparing to develop a new residential scheme on 500 acres near this expressway. The residential township along the e-way would be most desired because of the fast-growing industrial and commercial corridor between Lucknow and Kanpur.
Besides, the area is close to the Lucknow Ring Road and the International Airport, making it an attractive place for investment.
These three township projects target to house over 8 lakh people. Featured with best-in-class residential facilities, the combined township area will include residential, commercial and educational facilities. Along the Purvanchal Expressway, the LDA will also build a 100-acre education city, which will provide facilities from pre-primary to higher, technical, and medical education.
