Maradu flat owners seek action against Kochi civic body
A day after the Supreme Court lashed out at the state government for the delay in implementing its demolition order at Maradu, flat owners asked the government to take action against the civic body, Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) for abetting the construction of buildings, ignoring coastal regulation zone (CRZ) violations. They also sought action against the builder for constructing and selling the flats to ‘innocent’ consumers. Addressing the media, representatives of Maradu Bhavana Samrakshana Samiti – the association formed by owners of all the four buildings – said that over 1,800 CRZ violations were reported by KCZMA in Maradu municipality itself and the government should furnish the complete list before the Supreme Court on Friday, when the court will hear the demolition case. All constructions in Kerala’s coastal area between the 1991 and 25 February 2019 are unauthorized and illegal, based on the report submitted by the three-member committee to the Supreme Court.
