A member of state appointed committee, to study issue of an old dilapidated buildings in Mumbai, suggested that all 6000-7000 structurally dangerous buildings in south Mumbai should be acquire by the Mhada for redevelopment.
BJP MLA Raj Purohit who is also a member of state appointed committee have submitted his suggestions to the committee chairman and housing minister Prakash Mehta. Purohit while talking to media said that almost 6000-7000 cessed (private buildings which pays tax to Mhada) dilapidated buildings in south Mumbai, out of 14,000, need to be reconstruct. “The state agency Mhada should take over all these 7000 buildings for redevelopment, on the lines of BDD chawl project. And tenants, living in south Mumbai should also be eligible to get at least 500 sq ft house in redeveloped buildings,” added Purohit.
