Nashik civic body's property tax collection up 32%
The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) property tax collection figure till March 19 has reached Rs 140 crore, 32% more than the collection figure during the same period last year. In the last fiscal, the civic body had collected Rs 106 crore till March 19. An NMC official said the civic body had planned to touch the Rs 150 crore-mark by this time, but collection was affected owing to the Yes Bank crisis and the Covid-19 outbreak. “The NMC had tied up with Yes Bank for online collection of property and water taxes. Taxes were also being collected at 22 civic facilitations centres across six divisions of municipal corporation by the private bank,” the official said. “Owing to the coronavirus spread, the number of people coming to pay their taxes in the NMC’s divisional offices has also dropped,” he added. In the last financial year (2018-19), the NMC had collected property tax amounting to Rs 113 crore. That was the first time the NMC’s property tax collection target had breached the Rs 100 crore-mark. The current property tax collection figure of Rs 140 crore is the highest ever.
