Rajasthan housing board considering proposal to shut circle & divisional offices

The Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) is mulling a proposal to shut down its circle and divisional offices across the state. The proposal has been mooted as the staff deployed in many of these offices has little work and is underutilized. But in some other centres, there is a shortage of staff and RHB has been paying more for operations and maintenance. There is also a proposal to transfer existing staff to other needy centres. As per the proposal, the RHB will close one circle office in Jodhpur, and shut many divisional offices in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Pali, Chittorgarh and Udaipur.

Established in 1970, the RHB had aimed to provide houses on a no-profit no-loss basis. However, as there is uncertainty over developing new housing schemes, the (RHB) is seeking permission from the state government for the deacquisition of land. In a letter, the RHB has requested the state government to grant permission to develop new housing projects or allow them to start the process of deacquisition. In Jaipur and other parts of the state, the RHB had started land acquisition of 5,324 hectares from farmers to develop housing projects. Notices too were issued to farmers in this regard.

During her tour to Nagaur in 2016, chief minister Raje had imposed a ban on RHB after she found that the agency had constructed houses using inferior material
