STT GDC India to Invest Rs. 5,000 Crore in Maharashtra Data Centres

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (India), better known as STT GDC India, is set to make a major investment in Maharashtra to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to develop state-of-the-art data centre campuses in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune.

This move reaffirms STT GDC India’s leadership in the co-location data centre space and further expands its already strong presence across 10 major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad.

Big Investment, Big Impact

Under the newly signed MoU, STT GDC India will invest up to Rs. 5,000 crore (approximately SGD 735 million) in building and expanding data centre parks in Maharashtra. One of the key developments will be a new, large-scale campus in Palava, spread over 27 acres. This facility is being designed to support cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-density computing, making it a future-ready digital hub.

These data centre campuses will not only enhance digital capabilities but are also expected to significantly boost the local economy. The projects will create more than 500 high-skilled jobs and around 2,000 indirect employment opportunities, supporting Maharashtra’s vision of becoming a digital innovation powerhouse.

A Collaborative Push for Digital Growth

The MoU signing ceremony was held in Mumbai and attended by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, key state officials, and leadership teams from ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.

Speaking at the event, Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, said, “We are honoured to work with the Government of Maharashtra and deepen our presence in this vibrant state. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to accelerating digital transformation and positioning Maharashtra as a preferred destination for global technology infrastructure.”

Bimal Khandelwal, CEO of STT GDC India, highlighted the company’s vision for building sustainable, AI-ready data centres that use advanced liquid cooling technologies. “Our investments aim to build a robust digital backbone for hyperscale clients, enterprises, and communities in Maharashtra. We’re committed to responsible growth guided by strong ESG principles, safety, ethics, and inclusion.”

Government Support for a Digital Maharashtra

Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devender Fernandes welcomed the partnership and praised STT GDC India's investment as a key milestone in the state’s digital development.

“This collaboration brings us closer to our vision of establishing Maharashtra as India’s digital and innovation powerhouse. The government will offer full support to ensure timely project execution and generate opportunities for skilled talent and allied industries.”

Building India’s Digital Backbone

STT GDC India’s expansion plans in Maharashtra are a significant step toward strengthening the country’s digital backbone. The company is focused on enabling next-generation technologies by providing the infrastructure that powers everything from cloud computing and big data to AI and digital services.

These new data centres will be built with a strong focus on sustainability, scalability, and innovation, supporting India’s fast-growing digital economy. By investing in Maharashtra, STT GDC India is not just building data centres, it’s helping build the future of digital India.
