Three realty firms booked for cheating MHADA of Rs 46 crore in Mumbai

The economic offences wing (EOW) of Mumbai police is probing three separate cases against three realty firms for allegedly cheating Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) of Rs 46 crore by not giving the government body its share of constructed space.

In the first case, Mhada engineer Abhay Ramteke lodged a complaint with Matunga police against Dheeraj Shah and Vineet Shah, directors of Bhavi Homes Pvt Ltd, for causing the government body a loss of Rs 26.85 crore. The firm had taken up a redevelopment project at Dadar TT. The developers had to give Mhada 1133.7 sq mtr developed area as per Development Control Rule, but did not do so, an EOW officer said. Since the cheating amount in the case is above Rs 3 crore, it was transferred to EOW.

"The developers constructed the building and sold all the flats. No constructed space or area was given to Mhada," said the officer.

In the second case, a complaint was lodged against developer Diwakar Surve for allegedly not giving Mhada its share of constructed area in a project in Dadar, causing a loss of Rs 8.5 crore. In the third case registered at the Bhoiwada police station, Mhada complained that Arts Module Interntional Pvt Ltd and Arihant builders have not given the government body its share as per the rule and cheated it to the tune of Rs 12.88 crore.

The EOW is examining all the documents including NOC and permission for development. The police will also ask the developers to submit all the documents to the probing agency. “We will summon the accused soon,” said a police officer.
