Unauthorized structures in Pimpri Chinchwad civic body limits to invite fines
The property tax department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has started computing penalty tax arrears for unauthorized constructions and will prepare a tally in 15 days. According to ruling party leader Eknath Pawar, illegal constructions up to 600 sqft in area will get a full waiver of arrears, while those up to 1,000 sqft will get a 50% concession. Meanwhile, 200% penalty will be imposed on constructions of more than 1,001 sqft. The arrears will be calculated from April 2012. “The new tax arrear bills will be generated later,” Pawar said. “There are around 70,000 illegal constructions in the city that owe penalties to the civic body. We expect to waive off full penalty in the case 32,000 illegal constructions, Around 20,000 structures will have to pay 50%. The arrears are expected to be around Rs100 crore,” additional commissioner Dilip Gawde said. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced penalty tax concessions during last year’s civic poll campaign in Pimpri Chinchwad. Last week, mayor Rahul Jadhav had submitted a memorandum on several pending issues to Fadnavis at the mayors’ conference in Nagpur. “issues including water shortage in Pimpri Chinchwad, regularization and penalties on illegal constructions, Pavana and Indrayani riverfront development and extension of the Metro corridor from Pimpri to Nigdi were on the memorandum,” Jadhav said.
