Vadodara civic body starts slapping fines on complexes not maintaining parking space
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) started recovering fines from complexes that had failed to provide sufficient parking space despite repeated reminders to them. On Tuesday, notices for fine were issued to six buildings on posh R C Dutt Road in Alkapuri area of the city even as more parking space was cleared in the area. VMC had earlier stated that it could take drastic action like slapping fines and even sealing buildings if commercial complexes in the city did not adhere to notices issued to them for clearing parking spaces. The civic body had stated that it is authorized to do so under General Development and Construction Rules (GDCR). The VMC issued notices to Hotel Welcomgroup, Hotel Express, Dwarkesh Complex, Darpan Building, Bombay Shopping Centre and Indian Oil Corporation petrol pump on R C Dutt Road asking them to pay fines. While others had paid the fine, the two hotels had not done so till Tuesday evening. The amount recovered towards fine totalled Rs48,360. The teams of the civic body continued with the drive to clear hurdles in parking spaces on the road. Officials claimed that around 3,000 square metre of parking space was cleared in complexes and independent buildings on the road.
