Accordingly, the Centre has approved funds for 433,000 houses in the first phase and approvals for the remaining are expected to come by later, subject to availability of funds, rural development commissioner Ravindra Nayak stated. These are beneficiaries outside of the socio-economic caste census, 2011. The government has already provided houses to those who were included in the census. To identify other eligible beneficiaries, a survey called Awas plus is conducted from time to time, according to which more than 2.55 million beneficiaries remain to be allotted houses in the state. In the previous financial year, the state had constructed of 730,000 such houses. UP has topped the list of states in implementing the housing scheme and has built a total of 4 million houses in the past four years.
