Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) Plans Industry-Cum-Residential Scheme

Almost after two decades, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) is planning to launch a new scheme for the public on the pattern of South City.

Under this scheme, green industry will be given preference at Lohara side. The officials have started their preparations. Tenders have been floated to hire a consultant.

Various commercial entities are coming up along the South City. The LIT officials are planning to launch a green industry-cum-residential scheme.

LIT chairman Tarsem Bhinder along with officials had visited areas like Lohara, Jaspal Banger and adjoining locations. There is a plan to acquire 250 to 300 acres of land. Now officials have been told to complete the administrative process, so that acquisition process could start.

Officials are also thinking of developing this scheme by land pooling. The LIT wants to develop hotels, restaurants, theatres on almost 3 to 4 km area along the canal and there will be residential areas on the back side.

The planning is in the advanced stage and they hope to get support from the government to make it successful. If this scheme gets a go-ahead, then the city will get a green industry.

Notably, the LIT has also sent a proposal to hand over existing areas to the MC for maintenance purpose as LIT does not have required staff and machinery. This proposal has been sent for approval from the local bodies department.
