C&D Waste to Be Picked From Doorstep in Faridabad

Faridabad, the only district of Haryana which is part of the National Clean Air Programme, is planning to implement a doorstep construction and demolition (C&D) waste pickup service by March 31.

The district disclosed its action plan to mitigate air pollution on Monday at the “Dialogue towards Clean Air”, a two-day event. It also aims to clean and remove encroachment from stormwater drains and is planning to designate street vendor zones in the next 15 days. The district is also working towards the creation of green buffers on traffic corridors to reduce pollution, officials said.

“We have identified major sources of pollution in Faridabad, which include industrial emission, burning of crop residue, road dust, vehicular emissions and C&D activities,” said Yashpal Yadav, commissioner of the municipal corporation of Faridabad.

The district is planning to install three real-time air quality monitoring stations by 2025 at a cost of Rs 72 crore, an official from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board said.

To handle grievances related to air pollution, the district has also launched a mobile application, Faridabad 311. It has also added 150 trolleys and 398 garbage collection vans. To process C&D waste, a plant has been set up in Riwazpur.

The district is also planning to carry out a source appropriation study to identify major pollutants soon. “We have observed that many stormwater drains are filled with garbage and are planning to remove it by April 30. We are also increasing green cover in the district to reduce air pollution,” Yadav said.
