In Gurgaon’s bustling Magnum Global Park, a new workspace gleams in tones of burnished copper and concrete. Called A Copper Tilt, this 3,630 sq. ft office designed by Custom Design Stories is an expressive mix of precision, personality, and purpose. Led by designers Aditya Tognatta and Ananya Sharma, the project was commissioned by a business promoter who wanted an office that would not just function efficiently but also embody stature and strength.
Nearly 40 percent of the office area is devoted to the Managing Director’s cabin and adjoining private lounge, a deliberate choice that places individual expression and spatial hierarchy at the forefront. The brief was clear and meticulous: accommodate four cabins, workstations, a reception and waiting area, and a small pantry, all within a contemporary design framework. But the client also wanted something visually commanding, a space with an industrial edge that could make a statement without seeming ostentatious.
Copper became the material that anchored this vision. It appears everywhere, inlaid into the micro-concrete floors, perforated into the ceiling panels, framing the doors, and accenting the finer details. The metal lends warmth and power to the interiors, creating a balance between industrial texture and artisanal finish.
At the heart of the office lies its central lounge, a space that serves both as a reception and a meeting point. Most visitors are received here, surrounded by a liquid metal wall and custom-made furniture that sets the tone for what follows. The diagonal layout of the flooring and ceiling, both tilted off the conventional grid, gives the office its name. The tilt wasn’t just a stylistic flourish but a clever response to a sharply angled corner in the floor plan. The result is a room that feels alive and assertive, its geometry echoing the confidence of the business it represents.
“This wasn’t about creating a soft, neutral shell,” says Aditya Tognatta. “The client wanted presence. Every decision, from the slant of the ceiling to the weight of the materials was shaped by that.”
The Managing Director’s cabin, entered through a solid copper door, connects to a recreational room and a powder toilet. Accents of red run through the space, adding warmth and a note of power. The furniture, all custom-designed, reflects the same philosophy. The conference table merges wood, aluminium, and metal into one seamless form and conceals a sophisticated video conferencing setup. Lounge seating is sculptural yet ergonomic, with angled cylinders forming a triangular base that invites comfort without compromising design intent.
The meeting area is perhaps the most striking. Its main wall features a blotched liquid metal finish, a technique in which molten metal is poured over a black base and textured manually using cloth, creating a patina that shifts with light throughout the day. Against this shimmering backdrop, carefully chosen furniture pieces add depth and narrative: a side table crafted from a single oak stem bolted to a raw stone base, and a long wall installation that weaves metal, wood, and rattan together in rhythmic harmony.
Ananya Sharma, describes the experience of moving through the office as “almost cinematic.” Each room unfolds into the next, shifting subtly in light, tone, or texture. Doors become thresholds, moments of transition between moods.
Despite its scale, A Copper Tilt is deeply rooted in craft. Rugs were specially developed through local collaborations, while detailing such as fluted wall intersections and angled transitions in flooring reveal the designers’ precision. Patterns across the floors and ceilings align at deliberate angles, building visual tension and curiosity.
A Copper Tilt isn’t an office that seeks to impress through extravagance. Its strength lies in intention, in every alignment, angle, and gleam of copper that reflects not just design excellence but a clear sense of identity.
