Affordable houses too few in Noida region, poor opt for unauthorised colonies
The lack of affordable housing in the twin cities is one of the primary reasons for many people opting for unauthorised apartments in villages like Shahberi. In the past five years, GNIDA hasn’t come out with a single housing scheme for the low income group (LIG) or the economically weaker section (EWS). Noida Authority though came out with its first scheme in 2015. GNIDA has built only 16,463 flats (since 1995) — of which 10,623 homes have been registered and handed over so far. “In 2011, about 700 flats of 35.95 sqm were allotted for a four-floor building which was launched under Built-up Housing Scheme (BHS) 14 in Sector XU-03. Currently, no possession has been awarded in these as construction is still underway,” said Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, CEO of GNIDA. In the past five years (2013 to mid-2018), a total of 7,140 flats of 29.76 sq m were allotted for a four-floor building launched under BHS 14 and BHS 16 schemes in sectors 10 and MU 02. “Of these, GNIDA has obtained possession certificate of 2,470 units after having executed the lease deed of the building,” said Sen Sharma. “A total of 10,623 homes for low income group category have been provided out of 16,463 from 1995 till date under different schemes in different sectors. In future too, we will look into providing affordable housing as and when land acquisition happens in Greater Noida,” he added.
