Just a few hours away from the UK lies a stunning Moroccan city known for its striking blue buildings, Chefchaouen, often called the "blue pearl" of Morocco. Recently recognised as one of the most beautiful cities globally, Chefchaouen continues to captivate travellers with its unique charm and vibrant atmosphere.
Nestled in the Rif Mountains northwest of Morocco, Chefchaouen has a rich history dating back to 1471, founded by Jews and Moors fleeing Spain. The city’s most iconic feature is its distinctive blue-painted buildings, which have sparked several theories. Some believe Jewish settlers introduced the blue to reflect the colour of the sea, while others suggest it may help keep mosquitoes at bay.
