Homes In Italian Village Sambuca di Sicilia On Sale For €3

Homes In Italian Village Sambuca di Sicilia On Sale For €3

Homes In Italian Village Sambuca di Sicilia On Sale For €3

The hilly, quaint region has launched several schemes to sell off abandoned buildings, previously listing properties for just €1. And the bargain scheme has launched once again, with 12 homes available to snap up.

The €3 homes are located in the old Saracen district, and range from small one-bedroom properties to larger three-bedroom options. You'll need a knack for DIY, as the properties require significant restoration to make them habitable again. It's thought renovation costs are likely to be anywhere from £25,000 to £174,000 per property.

But there's a small catch. These homes aren't quite as affordable as they seem – as they are being auctioned for €3, meaning they are expected to sell for far more than that. Homes sold in the previous auction are reported to have gone for around €5,000 to €10,000.

The scheme also comes with the caveat that these renovations must be completed within three years of the purchase date.According to the new mayor of the village, Giuseppe Cacioppo, these won't be the last affordable homes to be sold in the area, either. 'We just want to make it clear that by numbering these batches, more sales will likely follow in coming years.

'The timing is perfect. Tourists and interested buyers currently traveling to Italy, and those planning a trip in spring and summer can come take a look. Foreigners are flocking to buy our homes; it's been a hit so far.'

Sambuca di Sicilia promises to be an utterly idyllic place to reside. Within the village, there are swathes of stunning historic buildings to enjoy, and the area is also known for its hiking and wine production.

And despite being just 37 square miles in size, the region also appears to have a wealth of local cafes and restaurants within it too, for late-night dinners and relaxed weekend lunches.
