Saudi Arabia’s Cube Building To Hold 20 Empire State Buildings

Saudi Arabia has announced plans for a new proposed cube-shaped structure which will be large enough to hold 20 Empire State buildings in the country's capital Riyadh. "A gateway to another world: The Mukaab will be the world's first immersive, experiential destination," it stated. The structure will be 400 metres high and 400 metres long on each side.

Backed by the country’s Public Investment Fund, the 19-square-kilometre development will be one of the largest buildings ever constructed and is set to boast an interior that is just as complex as its facade.

Set to be the new centrepiece of the Riyadh skyline, the scale of the Mukaab cube skyscraper is difficult to comprehend, featuring a hollowed-out centre with a spiralling tower inside it.

According to the plans, when completed the structure will contain more than 100,000 residential apartments, 9,000 hotel rooms, 1.4 million sqm of office space and another 980,000 sqm of retail space, as well as swathes of community facilities hospitality hubs and tourist attractions.

The 19-square-kilometre complex is slated to be erected to the northwest of central Riyadh and is being planned as a new downtown region for Saudi Arabia’s capital city.It will be constructed around the Mukaab building, which is expected to be “one of the largest built structures in the world” and is referred to as the “new face of Riyadh.” The building will be 400 metres high and 400 metres long on each side, making it a supertall skyscraper.
