Singapore Aims To Increase Data Centre Capacity By 35%

Singapore plans to increase its data centre capacity by over one-third, focusing on sustainable growth through greener facilities.

The new roadmap aims to increase data centre capacity by 35 per cent, adding 500 MW in total. Initially, 300 MW will be allocated, with a possibility of an additional 200 MW from green energy sources.The government will prioritise proposals for energy-efficient facilities utilising the latest cooling solutions and equipment. Additionally, partnerships with low-carbon energy providers will be encouraged.

Singapore, a global data centre hub with over 70 facilities, had restricted new construction in the past due to environmental concerns. This prompted some operators to build in nearby countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
