Vietnam Aims Raising Housing Space To 30 Sq M Per Person By 2030

Vietnam is looking to increase the floor area per person to 27 square metres by 2025 and 30 square metres by 2030, under a draft strategy by the Ministry of Construction (MOC).

The strategy also aims to develop and renovate 1.032 billion square metres, equivalent to 11.9 million homes, during the 2021-2030 period.

According to the moc, the average floor area per person reached 24.4 square metres nationwide in 2020, with 25.1 square metres in urban areas (up 3.8 square metres) and 24 square metres in rural areas (up 6.2 square metres).

Deputy minister Nguyen Van Sinh said housing development in the next ten years will focus on green and smart homes, housing development aligned with urban development, and the redevelopment of old apartment buildings.

He added that policies will also be introduced to develop houses for workers and low-income earners in urban areas.

After taking note of the ideas contributed, the MOC will finalise the national housing strategy for the 2021-2030 period with a view to 2040 and present it to the prime minister in the fourth quarter of 2021.
