What have been your strategies for managing a global portfolio?
Standard Chartered has a global real estate portfolio comprising 54 different markets all over the world. To manage this footprint and ensure every property reflects the Standard Chartered brand is of course a challenge. Our branches and offices are where we meet our clients, colleagues and community. It is essential that these spaces embody the Standard Chartered brand. We ensure that our workplaces are a reflection of the Standard Chartered as the bank of choice for affluent and cross-border clients, wherever they meet us.
What are the distinct design features of the Global Business Services office in Chennai?
Our Global Business Services (GBS) office in Chennai is a state-of-the-art facility, focused on employee wellbeing, productivity and environment friendly. One of my favourite features about the Chennai office is how GREEN it is. The green foliage comprises of 36,000 plants, with several of them replanted from our former Haddows property in Chennai. The biophilia and the natural light enhances comfort while reducing energy consumption.?The MERV 13 filtration and bipolar ionisation improve air quality & smart lighting featuring high-CRI fixtures, low glare, and daylight responsive controls promotes visual comfort. The smart grids and AI-powered energy-systems lower energy consumption & lower lighting power density and advanced smart controls reduce energy demand, while water use is cut through rainwater harvesting and recycling. The active design elements such as 20% sit–stand workstations and work pods, collaboration hubs, breakout zones encourage teamwork. Social anchors like the café and terrace foster daily connection and acoustic material creates calmer spaces.
How is the Chennai Centre positioned in Standard Chartered’s global strategy?
As the largest property in the Standard Chartered portfolio, this Chennai office carries great significance, not only in India but even globally. Consolidating over 13000 colleagues that previously were divided between six different sites, into one hub in Chennai is 5 years in the making (and more in the planning) -- something I’m incredibly proud of. It is the blueprint which we will look to for many future developments within the portfolio.
Our major successes this year include the recent renovation of our London headquarters & the recent inauguration of our property in Chennai.
