THIS YEAR’S COLOUR TRENDS IN INTERIOR DESIGN

Staying updated with the latest colour trends in interior design is essential to reflect a keen understanding of current preferences and design sensibilities. This year, we're seeing a surge in nuanced and refined tones. Nature-inspired colours such as gentle sage greens, terracottas, and tranquil sea blues are making their mark. These hues create a sense of serenity and blend seamlessly with various interior styles. When applied judiciously, they add a touch of sophistication to any space.

Colour schemes for Living Room, Family Rooms & Bed rooms

When it comes to choosing colour schemes for different rooms, it's important to consider the functionality and ambience of each interior. For living rooms, opt for warm neutrals like beiges or greys, complemented by accents of deep orange or olive greens for a touch of cultivated elegance. Family rooms, on the other hand, benefit from inviting tones like soft and muted tones, creating a snug and inviting atmosphere. Bedrooms are personal sanctuaries; subdued colours such as pastels or serene greys evoke a sense of calm, promoting restful sleep. Accent wallpapers can add a sense of character to the interiors amidst the calming backdrop.

Colours to choose for Baths & Kitchens

Functional spaces like bathrooms and kitchens require a careful selection of colours. For bathrooms, light and airy palettes would do wonders. Gentle blues or soft mint greens, accented against crisp whites, create a revitalising and invigorating atmosphere. Kitchens, being the heart of the home, thrive with warm, inviting tones. Earthy shades like soft ash greys or muted terracottas for cabinetry, paired with clean whites for countertops and backsplashes, strike a harmonious balance.

Colour palette for outdoor sitting areas

Designing outdoor sitting areas requires a blend of nature-inspired hues to seamlessly merge with the surroundings. Opt for earthy tones like greens, weathered browns, and cosy greys. These colours not only harmonise with the natural environment but also exude a sense of luxury and refinement. Consider incorporating natural materials like reclaimed wood and natural stone to further enhance the connection with the outdoors. One could also choose to go neutral to imbue a sense of serenity and peace that it brings along with it.

What not to do when choosing colour schemes for your home

When it comes to colour schemes, it's important to avoid over-saturation or excessive contrast. While bold colours have their place, it's crucial to balance them with neutral tones. Avoid using too many bright or intense colours in one space, as it can be overwhelming. Further, consider the flow of colours throughout your home to ensure a cohesive and harmonious feel.

My own favourite colour scheme

In my own design preferences, I find solace in nuanced earth palettes. The understated refinement they bring to a space is truly unmatched. Neutral tones, like soft greys and arm taupe, form the foundation, allowing for versatility in styling. They serve as a canvas for various design elements to shine, creating a seamless blend of sophistication and comfort.
