Ahmedabad Leads India’s Furnished Housing Market for Relocating Buyers

The Indian housing market is witnessing a subtle but notable shift, as furnished homes gain popularity among families, professionals, and relocating buyers seeking ready-to-live solutions. According to eXp India, Ahmedabad has emerged as the national leader in furnished residential offerings, with 22.5% of listed properties currently available fully furnished.

This trend underscores the growing importance of turnkey homes for buyers prioritising convenience and efficiency over traditional considerations like square footage or location alone. For those relocating within India or from overseas, the ability to move directly into a fully furnished property offers immediate practicality and reduced upfront costs.

Furnished Homes: A Niche but Growing Segment

Nationally, furnished homes still represent a relatively modest 8.8% of all residential listings, indicating significant potential for growth. Yet, certain cities stand out for offering a higher proportion of furnished stock, reflecting strong local demand from mobile professionals and buyers looking for convenience.

Surat ranks second, with 17.1% of properties available fully furnished, followed by Jaipur at 12.6%. Kanpur (11.6%), Mumbai (10.3%), and Kolkata (10.0%) also demonstrate notable furnished home availability, highlighting that both metropolitan centres and regional cities are catering to this rising segment.

Metropolitan Markets and Emerging Cities

While Ahmedabad, Surat, and Jaipur dominate the furnished housing space, several other cities provide meaningful options. Pune (9.8%), Delhi (9.3%), and Lucknow (8.2%) maintain steady furnished stock, meeting demand from professionals and families seeking functional living spaces. Hyderabad (7.8%), Indore (7.6%), and Navi Mumbai (7.0%) show moderate availability, indicating a gradual adoption of turnkey solutions.

Conversely, Bengaluru (6.7%), Nagpur (5.6%), and Chennai (4.6%) record the lowest proportions of furnished homes. In these markets, buyers are more likely to acquire unfurnished properties and arrange their own interiors, reflecting either traditional buyer preferences or limited supply of ready-to-move options.

Why Furnished Homes Matter

Sam Chopra, President of eXp India, explains that India’s housing market is becoming increasingly mobile. “Professionals are relocating for work, families are upsizing or downsizing, and buyers are moving between cities more frequently than ever before. For many of these buyers, a furnished home offers immediate practicality, reducing both upfront costs and the stress associated with moving,” he said.

The convenience of turnkey homes extends beyond domestic relocations. For international buyers or those moving from other parts of India, furnished properties significantly improve the overall buying and moving experience. They reduce the logistical complexity of arranging furniture, appliances, and fittings, making relocation smoother and faster.

eXp India’s analysis highlights not just which cities offer the highest availability of furnished homes but also the growing recognition among developers that turnkey solutions are increasingly valued by buyers. The company’s nationwide and global network helps buyers identify the right markets and property types suited to their lifestyle, budget, and practical needs.

For developers, catering to this demand is not merely a luxury add-on. Features like ready-to-use kitchens, air-conditioned interiors, and fully furnished living spaces have become a differentiator in competitive markets. Cities like Ahmedabad are capitalising on this by offering a broad range of furnished options to attract relocating professionals and families.

The Road Ahead

Furnished homes, while still a niche segment, are likely to grow as urban migration, professional mobility, and lifestyle expectations continue to evolve. As more buyers prioritise convenience and immediate usability, turnkey properties may shift from being an optional upgrade to a standard offering in key residential projects.

The rise of furnished housing is reshaping not only buyer expectations but also how developers plan, market, and design new projects. Ahmedabad’s leadership in this segment demonstrates the potential for other cities to follow suit, creating a more dynamic and buyer-focused residential market across India.
