The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Indian Green Building Council (IGC) has elected its new office bearers for the year 2024-26. In one of the prominent appointment B Thiagarajan, Managing Director of Blue Star Ltd was appointed as National Chairman For CII-IGBC.
Thiagarajan, is set to drive forward the Green Building Movement in India with a keen focus on the reduction of resource consumption and minimizing carbon emissions. His leadership aims to take footprints of buildings and accelerating sustainable construction practices to foster a culture of eco-friendly development in the nation.
Speaking about the goals he said, “Recently the demand for cooling has substantially increased and the India HVAC market size is expected to see a CAGR of nearly 16% by 2030. Our aim is to improve the efficiency of operation equipment and increase the adoption of low carbon cooling systems. With GreenPro Eco-labelled building products made available across the country, I believe we can aspire industry stakeholders to embrace sustainability and facilitate India to become one of the foremost countries to achieve Net-Zer Carbon by 2070.”
B Thiagarajan earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics degree from Madurai University, India. He completed a Senior Executive Program at the London Business School in 2006. He has over three decades of experience, having worked for L&T, BPL and Voltas prior to joining Blue Star.
Thiagarajan joined Blue Star in 1998 to manage the Marketing Support Services and Customer Service functions. He soon assumed responsibility for Corporate Communications and Marketing where he played a significant role in building the image and brand equity of Blue Star. Over the years he took additional charge of the Service Business operations of Blue Star, and then of Corporate Affairs & Planning. He was elevated to President of the Airconditioning & Refrigeration Products Group in 2009. Under his leadership, the AC&R products business of the Company has grown significantly in terms of volumes and profitability.
