Bridgestone India Opens Nature Interpretation Centre at Kheda Plant

Bridgestone India has opened a Nature Interpretation Centre at its Butterfly Garden within the company’s Kheda Plant in Indore, creating a unique space where learning and nature come together. Designed as an eco-friendly mud house, the Centre aims to promote biodiversity awareness and environmental education.

Visitors can explore interactive smart boards, a three-dimensional model of local ecosystems, and an educational resource area stocked with books, herbariums, and training materials. Beyond displays, the Centre hosts workshops, awareness programs, and community engagement initiatives, making it a hub for hands-on learning about the natural world.

The Butterfly Garden itself spans 1.23 acres and is home to over 7,000 native plants. This carefully nurtured green space supports a thriving ecosystem of butterflies, birds, reptiles, mammals, and other pollinators, demonstrating how industry and nature can coexist.

An evaluation by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) highlights the garden’s success in boosting local wildlife. Since its inception, the number of butterfly species has risen from 44 to 68, while bird species have increased from 40 to 46, including several first-time records for the Kheda region.

The Centre also prioritizes community engagement. Recently, more than 70 students from five local schools visited the site, gaining hands-on experience in biodiversity and environmental conservation. Through such initiatives, the project encourages young learners to connect with nature while understanding the importance of sustainable practices.

Bridgestone’s Butterfly Garden and the new Nature Interpretation Centre together exemplify the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and social responsibility. By blending industry operations with ecological stewardship, Bridgestone demonstrates that business and environmental conservation can advance together, benefiting both local communities and the planet.

The Nature Interpretation Centre adds a new dimension to the garden, making it not just a space for observation but a living classroom. Its interactive features and educational programs aim to inspire future generations to care for biodiversity and engage actively in environmental protection.

As more companies look to integrate sustainability into their operations, Bridgestone’s initiative offers a compelling example of how industrial spaces can become centers for ecological learning and community impact. The project shows that thoughtful design, local species preservation, and education can create a model for corporate environmental stewardship.

With the Nature Interpretation Centre now operational, Bridgestone is not only enhancing its environmental initiatives but also providing a platform for continuous learning and engagement with nature. The initiative underscores the idea that industry and ecology do not have to be at odds, they can grow together in harmony, benefiting both people and wildlife.
