Under a community-first model, 70 villages in Chhattisgarh will soon experience safer streets, better connectivity, and improved public spaces through Signify’s Har Gaon Roshan initiative. The program, launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, brings modern, energy-efficient LED streetlights to rural communities, transforming everyday life after dark and enabling greater social and economic participation.
The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Bharat Cares, reinforcing a collaborative approach that combines technology, governance, and local engagement. By working closely with district administrations and village representatives, each LED installation is tailored to meet the specific needs of the community, ensuring maximum impact and ownership.
Speaking at the inauguration, Amit Shah highlighted the program’s potential to enhance safety, boost commerce, and foster community development. “Har Gaon Roshan is not just about lighting streets. It represents inclusive progress, where every village can shine brighter, empowering people and creating opportunities for growth,” he said.
Signify, the world leader in lighting and driving the #BrighterLivesBetterWorld vision, brings its expertise in sustainable lighting solutions to the initiative. Nikhil Gupta, Head of Marketing, Strategy, Government Affairs & CSR, Greater India, said, “Light is an enabler of safety, social connection, and opportunity. Har Gaon Roshan shows how technology, when combined with community engagement, can drive meaningful change across rural India. Every installation empowers people, strengthens communities, and supports India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat.”
The program’s focus on LED streetlights ensures energy efficiency, lower operational costs, and long-term sustainability. Beyond improved visibility and safer streets, extended hours of light create new opportunities for educational activities, social gatherings, and small businesses, helping villages flourish economically and socially.
Bhomik Shah, Founder of Bharat Cares, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative. “Chhattisgarh, with its rich tribal heritage, stands to gain from Har Gaon Roshan not just in infrastructure, but in community empowerment and inclusive development,” he said.
Har Gaon Roshan has already made a difference in other states, proving that thoughtfully implemented rural lighting projects can create lasting benefits. By centering communities in planning and execution, Signify and its partners are ensuring that the program addresses real local needs, from safety to social and economic growth.
With the inauguration by Amit Shah, the 70 villages in Chhattisgarh are now set to experience the transformative effects of Har Gaon Roshan, showcasing how sustainable, community-driven initiatives can illuminate lives, unlock opportunities, and strengthen the foundation for inclusive rural development.
